As Arizona mourns the death of the man they called, 'The Maverick', Arizona's top athletes will all have roles in the funeral for Sen. John McCain.
Arizona Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald will speak during Thursday's service in Phoenix, along side Former Vice President Joe Biden. Also, former Arizona Coyotes captain Shane Doan and former Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Luis Gonzalez will serve as pallbearers.
According to a Fox 10 Phoenix article:
"He attended countless professional and collegiate games in Arizona for more than two decades. He became friends with many of the athletes in the area, including Fitzgerald, Doan and Gonzalez."
Thursday, McCain will be honored in a memorial service celebrating his life at the North Phoenix Baptist Church. Friends, family and national/state officials will attend the service to honor the late Senator. From there, McCain will then depart Arizona and travel to Maryland.
